Light-mindedness

Light-mindedness can be defined as a state of mind occupied with the following:

1. The surface of life
2. The transient values, such as possessions and appearance
3. Results and show-offs
4. Forms and their surface values
5. Involving oneself with the pleasures of the lower person
6. Not penetrating into the depth of causes, reality, or facts
7. Not thinking about the purpose of life given to us
8. Not thinking about the future, about one's soul
9. Not having a vision
10. Not striving to come in contact with oneself, one's reality

You can see light-minded people everywhere who are busy with the surface and the trash of life. They are like a piece of wood floating on the surface of the ocean, following the direction of the winds and waves.

Master Morya says, "Chiefly, beware of treason and light-mindedness. Out of levity is treason born." But what is treason? To commit treason, you must have light-mindedness. Because of your light-mindedness you do not see the consequences of your actions. You do not care for the people your treason will hurt. You do not think about your future. You only think either of gain for your pocket or think how to satisfy your hatred and revenge. You reveal secrets that were entrusted to you, such as national secrets, group secrets, personal secrets, and even valuables that were entrusted to you;  you assimilate them but deny seeing them.

The traitor never works for the interest of any party but for his own interests.

The traitor never commits treason as a result of any virtue. It is the result of his vices, light-mindedness, and selfishness that controls his actions.

Light mindedness prevents a person from keeping his contact with the captain of the ship -- the soul-- and because the person is deprived of direction, he follows the suggestions of his glamors, illusions, ego, and pleasures and leads the ship to the rocks.

Light-mindedness prevents a person from seeing the consequences of his actions.

Light-mindedness kills the seeds of the sense of responsibility and the spirit of cooperation.

Light-minded scientists, educators, and leaders eventually endanger the lives of multitudes for their vainglory. There have been kings who destroyed their nation and caused suffering to multitudes because of their self-interest.

Light-mindedness blinds people to the real values and issues of light and makes them waste their time with non-essentials.

A light-minded person is a plant that has no roots. He does not have access to the life-giving substance of the earth nor sensitivity to the energy of the sun. He wastes his time laughing and talking and feeling happy about the news of crimes, destruction, and wars, thinking that he has nothing to do with them.

A light-minded man is like the man who builds his home in a floodplain and lives in his home with great satisfaction until the flood starts.

The light-minded man never tries to help increase the principles of Beauty, Goodness, Righteousness, Joy, and Freedom in the worlds, and when he meets the enemies of these principles, he jokes about the principles.

Light-mindedness is also related to those states of mind in which a person does not think about the consequences of the pressure he puts upon others, and does not consider the future effects of the pressure upon their bodies.

One of the cures of light-mindedness is co-measurement. Another cure is the development of insight and foresight. Another is scientific meditation, which develops causal thinking.

Most people can see only effects. They are not interested in causes. Unless people develop deep thinking and discover the causes of events and annihilate them, events will continue repeating themselves forever.

Another cure for light-mindedness is to develop solemnity. Solemnity is a state of consciousness in which a person thinks and lives in the light of the wisdom of a Teacher or his Solar Angel or the wisdom of a Great One. Solemnity is a state of living in a greater light.

Another cure for light-mindedness is to see the suffering and pain in the world.

We had a light-minded neighbor. My Father, who was working in the hospital, used to invite that neighbor to the hospital twice a week and took him to visit some of the suffering patients. This man slowly changed and begun to think, and he tried to see the deeper layers of life.

One day my Mother asked Father why he was inviting this man every week to the hospital? He smiled and said, "He needs healing. He has a special disease which must be taken care of." And when my Mother asked with surprise what was his disease, my Father answered, "Lack of weight and depth." "I never heard of such a thing," said Mother.

At night my Mother insisted in knowing about that sickness. This time my Father explained that when there is some loose connection in certain head glands, one becomes light-minded and falls into levity.

My Mother asked further, "Is it caused by viruses?" "Yes, but they are ethereal viruses."

Evidently the healing process was successful because the man became a volunteer and followed certain medical studies and practices to serve in the hospital doing some very hard work with joy and love.

Once he said to my Father, "Before I saw the suffering of people I was a happy fool and my life was wasted, but now I feel that a volume exists in me."

And my Father answered, "Self value increases when we dedicate ourselves to make people see their innermost possibilities and values."

Another cure for light-mindedness is to make a person confront complicated problems.

All these cures eventually, one by one, meet the person on the road of life and try to heal him. And the healing comes when the person becomes aware of his light-mindedness.
